Intercostal Neuritis

Also known as chest wall pain, is a condition that causes pain along the intercostal nerves located between your ribs. Nerve compression in the abdominal area (the area by the ribcage) results in intercostal neuralgia. Signs or Symptoms include localized pain or severe ache that runs between the ribs. The cause of pain is trauma that pinches the nerve causing the inflammation.

Standard Treatment

Rest, ice and anti-inflammatory medications.

Factors that would cause local malfunctioning of the rib attachments are looked for. These are usually imbalances of the muscles that attach to the ribs. The involved muscles are examined and tested for the specific treatment that will reduce the abnormal function of the muscle and normalize the pull of the muscle. Treatment is then aimed at normalizing the function of the ribs and the spine.
